Some common questions regarding physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?
Veterinary physiotherapy is a science-based profession that helps animals recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, and improve performance by using hands-on techniques (massage, stretching), electrotherapies (laser, ultrasound), and specific exercise programs to reduce pain, restore mobility, and enhance quality of life, always working alongside a veterinarian for referrals and consent.
What is a “standard” session?
There is no thing as a standard appointment, this is because of the individual nature of each animal I work with. Each session has assessment and treatment, however this is adapted for the session. The most important thing for me is a positive experience, working with the animal.
Do I need a Vet referral?
Yes! But this is easily sorted, if you wish to book in, please do contact me, I have a referral form that I need yourself to fill out and then your vet to sign.
Its that simple!
Is it Safe?
There are still the worries that its just stroking or many other things, however in my personal belief physiotherapy is so much more. The possibilities are endless, from dogs that are able to walk again following surgeries, or strokes, to horses that can run faster, jump higher, and prevention from injury. Physiotherapy plays a vital role within all of these scenarios! One of the reasons I pursued this career is because of my personal experiences and seeing the results achieved. I am more than happy to discuss with you the science behind each and every one of my chosen therapies
Do they need time off after?
Every animal is different, I normally recommend 24 hours of rest before returning to normal routine, however this is dependant on any vet advice that may also be in place.
Why is my horse yawning / licking / chewing?
All these signs in horses show they are relieving tension
Will they enjoy it?
All animals are different, it should be an enjoyable experience for them, relaxing! However, especially the first few sessions, if they’ve never had physio or are nervous, they may be a little unsure however I strive to make the experience positive.
